3 Ideas to “Let it Go!”

Ok, stop signing the Frozen song…I know you were, but now it’s time to get into God’s Word!  Last week we talked about how hurrying can lead us to make mistakes.  Today, our Wisdom Wednesday is a bit of a turn on the fact that most of us do hurry through life.

As I was reading my “Jesus Calling” devotional this morning, for April 1 (happy April Fool’s day, btw!), author Sarah Young writes as though from the voice of Jesus:  “I challenge you to release the fantasy of an uncluttered world. … A successful day is one in which you have stayed in touch with Me, even if many things remain undone at the end of the day.”

Give it up. Let it go.  Life is cluttered.  Life will probably always feel busy.  I need to face the fact that I’ll probably never feel like this lady in the picture, completely at rest, just sitting outside sipping my coffee…aahhh… Nope.  Probably not going to happen.  So, the key is to keep our focus on Jesus and staying in tune with Him ~ even though our life is cluttered with too many things to do.

In her devotional for today, Sarah Young points to Proverb 3:6:

“In all your ways, acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

So, as we try to create days that are more organized, less cluttered (remember my advice from last week to only put 3 things on the list?), and less hurried, we need to make sure that all of our striving to create a more peaceful day doesn’t pull us away from focusing on Jesus.  Regardless of whether we have a calm day or a busy day, our eyes and hearts should be searching for Jesus in the moments throughout our day.

God is there to direct our steps, even in our daily “stuff.”  Proverb 3:6 says in “all” your ways, acknowledge Him.  It doesn’t say only pray and seek His guidance about the “big stuff.”  In ALL your ways, keep Jesus front and center.  If you do that, He will make your path straight.

So, perhaps while we try to slow down, we should also “let it go” and realize that life is going to continue to move at a fast pace.  As long as we keep our eyes on Jesus, our day will be “successful.”  That’s a relief to me!  What about you?

3 Ideas to Let It Go and Keep Your Eyes on Jesus:

  1. Start your day with Jesus.  I find that if I don’t start my day quietly praying and reading my Bible, my focus tends to turn back to me, my plans, my problems, etc.  I need to start my day focused on Him or everything seems to go downhill from there!  If you are not a morning person (welcome to my club!), just start with 15 minutes before you begin to wrangle kids or take your shower.
  2. Put verses up around your home and office, maybe even in your car if you spend a lot of time there.  I have some beautiful pieces that make my home and office look great, but also happen to have a verse from the Bible on them.  In fact, one of my dearest friends just sent a new one for me for my birthday ~ I love it!
  3. Listen to music that praises God.  I listen mostly to K-Love (www.KLove.com), but I also set Pandora to shuffle Christian music.  You can find great Christian music a number of places.  I leave the music on really low in my office.  Several times throughout the day, I catch myself signing along or turning it up for a song I like.

Let’s talk about it:

Do you think you can “let it go” and accept your crazy, too-busy life?

What ideas do you have to keep our focus on God throughout the day?
