Funky Friday ~ Tame my Tongue? Moderate my Mouth?

Is it important to watch what we say?  Should we moderate what comes out of our mouth?  A few of my recent posts have dealt with how we can decide to use our words to help situations (spread the honey) or stir up more disagreement among others (stir the pot).  So, for your “Funky Friday” Bible knowledge, here you go:

The Bible (New American Standard Bible version) uses the words “mouth” or “tongue” more than 500 times!  “Mouth” is used 361 times and “tongue” is used 140 times.  Wow.  Apparently, God has a lot to tell us about how to use the gift he gave only to humans…the power of words.

In Psalms and Proverbs alone, tongue and mouth are referenced more than 160 times.  There is a lot of wisdom and guidance in just these two books of the Bible about how we should be trying to tame our tongues and moderate our mouths!

See my Wednesday Wisdom post “Do you Stir the Pot or Spread the Honey?” for ideas about how to apply more discipline in your conversations with others.

Let’s Talk About It:

Do you think people need to pay more attention to the words they use or how they talk?

What practical things do you do to help you watch what you say?
