Ghostbusters? Your friends? Your family? Your credit card? Your bank?
When life gets hard, whom do you call? When push comes to shove, whom do you rely on?
When you are facing fears, whom do you trust?
King David made his call ~ and it wasn’t to Ghostbusters! Check it out in Psalm 20:
“Now I know that the Lord saves his anointed; he will answer him from his holy heaven with the saving might of his right hand. Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. They collapse and fall but we rise and stand upright.” ~ Psalm 20:6-8 (ESV)
Lately, my job security has been threatened. Perhaps your life also is being challenged by economic or market changes. Maybe you or a loved is fighting cancer like my brother.
Life can often feel like a battle. When King David was facing a battle, he called on the Lord. David was confident that God would answer his call for help. David trusted the mighty hand of God to save him.
Times are not so different today. There are people who put their trust in their jobs, bank accounts, or other people ~ like trusting in horses and chariots during the battles of David’s reign.
But, I pray that as followers of Christ, we will trust in God. While others collapse and fall, we will rise and stand upright.
Today, let’s pick one area of our lives where we feel like we are in a battle. Next, pray for the Lord to intervene and fight for us with His mighty hand. Finally, because we trust in God, let’s “rise and stand upright” by acting like someone who has been chosen (or anointed) to represent Christ in this world.
Through our battles, even when the outlook seems daunting, let’s not allow any false trust in material things or other people to enter our hearts. Let’s stay focused on the answer to every problem ~ Almighty God.
Anything else is like calling Ghostbusters! Who you gonna call?
