“If Peter was ever going to walk on the water, he had to walk, but if he was going to swim to Jesus, he had to swim. He could not do both.” (devotional Streams in the Desert) This is the struggle of our very lives. This is the struggle of every human heart. To believe or not to believe. You cannot do both.
“Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” ~ John 20:29
The same is true for our dreams. Those things we hide deep in our hearts, only letting them out in the privacy of our daydreams. We easily convince ourselves that those amazing things we’d like to do are just out of our reach. If something started to happen, if we could just “see” it, then we could believe God really did bless us with those talents.
Yet, that normally isn’t the way God deals with our hearts and our faith. Many times in the Old Testament, God asked His people to take steps forward before they saw what He would do for them. It’s a faith standoff. It’s the King of the universe insisting that we take the first step, showing our loyalty and trust in Him and Him alone. The result of taking that first step, however, is worth it:
“Blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what had been spoken to her by the Lord.” ~Luke 1:45
Do I believe that God will fulfill the dream He nestled deep in my soul?
Do you believe He will complete the inner longings of your heart?
Will you join me for the next 3 weeks, a 21-day “fast,” to set aside our doubts and fears and step forward, walking on the water of our dreams? I’ll be doing short blogs to keep our eyes on Jesus. Each post will have an assignment for us to complete before the next blog post.
First Assignment: mark September 1-22 on your calendar with the word “WALK.” No one but you has to know that you are working on the dream in your heart and not an exercise program!
If you want to join me on this journey, make sure to subscribe to my blog (type your email in the box on the side of the screen and then click the subscribe button) so you’ll get my emails as we take our first steps together.
You can also email me: kimerickson@lovemyword.com and I’ll add you to the list. I’m excited. Are you?
